What CrestCast is, what to say about it, and the few things that are off limits. Written so you never have to guess whether something is safe to publish.

Your link

Your link is your own name on our domain, in the form crestcast.co.uk/yourname. It is in your approval email and on your dashboard.

It survives being read out loud, written on a slide and typed in from a podcast, which is the reason it is short. There is nothing for your audience to type and no code to remember.

A click is remembered for 30 days, on the device that made it. Nobody buys planning software in the first five minutes, so the window is long enough for a real decision. We do not follow people between devices, so a click on a phone and a subscription on a laptop may not be attributed.

What CrestCast is, in one sentence

CrestCast is a UK personal finance forecasting app: you enter your income, bills, debts and savings, and it projects your cash, your profit and loss and your net worth forward day by day, for a household rather than one person.

Prices, so you never have to check: £79.99 a year or £7.99 a month, covering the whole household rather than one seat. Every new account gets 30 days free and no card is needed to start.

Your readers get 60 days. Anybody who arrives through your link gets a longer trial than a visitor who finds us on their own: 60 days rather than 30. It is worth saying out loud, because it is the one thing your audience gets that they would not get by typing our name into a search box.

Three things it is not, and please do not imply otherwise

It is not financial advice. It is a calculator you point at your own numbers. Describing it as advice, as regulated, or as authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority is the one thing that could cause us a genuine problem, and clause 5.3 of the terms says so.

It is not a bank aggregator. It does not log into your accounts and pull your transactions in. You type what you have, which is slower to start and is why the forecast can go somewhere a tracker cannot.

It is not a guarantee. A forecast is a projection from what somebody typed. Please do not promise a saving, a return or an outcome on our behalf.

Lines you can use as they are

I have been using CrestCast to plan our household money. You put in your income, bills and debts and it shows you what your balance actually does over the next few years, rather than what it did last month.

Most money apps are a rear view mirror. CrestCast points the other way: it forecasts, so you can see the month the car insurance and the holiday land in the same fortnight before it happens rather than afterwards.

If you and a partner run money together, CrestCast does households rather than individuals. Personal, partner and joint are separate views of the same forecast, so nobody has to hand over their salary to see the plan.

Change the words. These exist so you are never stuck, not so every post about us reads the same, and an audience can tell the difference immediately.

Telling your audience you earn something

You have to make the commercial relationship clear, in a way that meets the UK Advertising Standards Authority rules. That is clause 5.6, and it protects you more than it protects us. A label such as “ad” is enough, or a plain sentence:

I earn a commission if you subscribe through my link. It costs you nothing extra: there is no discount code and the price is the same either way.

That sentence is also the most persuasive thing you can say about this programme. A reader who hears there is no catch, and can check it in one click, stops looking for one.

What is off limits

Do not bid on our name in paid search. Clause 5.1. It makes us pay a commission on somebody who was already looking for us, so it costs us money without bringing anybody new.

Do not list us on coupon or discount-code sites. Clause 5.2. There is no discount, so any listing saying there is one is untrue.

Do not state a feature or a figure that is not true. Clause 5.3. If you are not sure whether the app does something, ask us and we will tell you plainly, including when the answer is no.

The full terms are the agreement. This section is a plain restatement of clause 5, not a replacement for it.

Images

The best screenshot of a forecasting app is somebody's own forecast, and your free CrestCast account exists partly so you can take one. A shot of our sample household is a shot of a fictional family and readers can tell.

If you would rather use ours, take them from the homepage, the couples page or how the forecast works. One request: do not shrink them. The figures in a statement are the whole point of the picture, and below about ten pixels of text they stop being readable and become texture.

Want a logo file or a proper image bundle? Ask, and we will send them. Sending them on request keeps our branding somewhere we can see it, which a public folder does not.

Getting paid, in four lines

£40 for each customer whose first annual subscription is paid for. Annual only, first year only.

Monthly in arrears, no minimum, through Stripe. Your bank details go to Stripe and never to us.

There is no refund clawback. A chargeback is different and clause 4 explains it.

Your dashboard shows clicks, subscriptions and earnings month by month.

Anything at all, including “is this true of the app”, goes to affiliates@crestcast.co.uk and a person answers it.
